Comprised of a whopping 27 g of .875 gold, this beautiful Chilean 8 Escudos rivals the size of a Victorian crown and feels like substantial money in hand! 💪🏻

The melt value on this whopper is £1030! ⭐️

Minted in the year of 1808 at the Santiago mint in Chile, this huge gold piece was the largest circulating gold coin denomination during the time of Spain's colonisation of Chile. The obverse features a regal bust of King Charles III of Spain and the reverse boasts the archetypically Spanish crowned arms – a design and style which holds true on a significant proportion of Spanish colonial coins!

Given that this piece was truly minted for circulation and is a non insignificant 214 years old, the condition of the coin is commendable. With that said, the coin has been cleaned and has cosmetic scratches on the obverse. Nevertheless, this is a strong example of a type which is not easy to get a hold of. There are many Spanish 8 Escudos, but there are comparatively fewer of the Chilean designation, particularly from the Santiago mint!

With a mintage of 39,000 this isn't a coin which was originally produced in large quantities, and not one which I will see come my way again in a hurry.

Please note that the pictures of this coin next to a typical Victorian crown are for scale only. The victorian crown is not included in this sale.

This is a substantial coin and would make a signifiant addition to any collection. Place this in anybody's hands and they will feel just how significant this piece is!
