Did you know Saint Andrew, the brother of Saint Peter, was also an original apostle of Christ. When he was crucified he was bound to his cross upside down.

The cross was described to be as a “crux decussate” – an X-shaped cross, or saltire which later became known as St Andrew’s Cross.

It is said this type of cross was used at his own request as he deemed him unworthy to be crucified on the same type of cross as Jesus.

He carried out mission around the Black Sea until his death. He is the patron Saint of Scotland today which he is most know for but also the patron Saint of Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Barbados, Sicily, Greece, Cyprus and Romania.
