Minted the year the Titanic sank, this stunning Canadian $10 gold piece is a thing of beauty!
Boasting a rather regal crowned portrait of King George V on the obverse, the Canadian government planned to mint a $2 1/2 and $20 gold piece with the same design as the much-loved $5 and $10 denominations. This plan never came to fruition, but this doesn’t stop us numismatists from appreciating what we do have! 🌟
The reverse of these gorgeous coins features the Canadian coat of arms as given by Queen Victoria on 26 May 1868. The cost of arms rests upon crossed maple branches, with the shield split into four parts, each of which boasts the coats of arms of the four founding provinces of Canada: Ontario, Quebec, New-Brunswick, and Nova Scotia respectively!
