H.M.S. Assurance was a British frigate assigned to return the retiring governor of Jamaica back to England in 1753. On April 24th, while passing through the Needles Rocks of the coast of the Isle of Wright, the captain became too "cocky" and sailed H.M.S. Assurance too close to the rocks, causing her to become stuck on the rocks. All her crew, including the former governor, survived. The captain was court martialed and sentenced to three months imprisonment.
