Greek city of Sidon in Phoenicia

Silver Double Shekel 26mm (25.44 grams) Struck circa 365-352 B.C. NGC Ancients VF Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5 Well centered, and detailed for such a large piece of silver. Complementary cabinet toning on both side. Rare to find Double Shekels in any grade. Most Shekel or Holy Land Collection don’t have a Double Shekel.

Obverse- War-galley traveling left, propelled by row of oars shields along bulwarks, standard at stern bneath, two lines of zig-zag waves above, Phoenician letter '9' (B). Reverse- King of Achaemenid Empire, raising right hand and holding animal-headed sceptre, and driver in chariot drawn by horse left behind, King of Sidon, Ba'Alshillem II, standing left, in Egyptian dress, holding cultic sceptre on foot.
About 20 miles north of Tyre, Sidon was a city of great antiquity and in early times the chief seat of the maritime power of the Phoenicians. Commercially it was important as the center of purple-dyeing industry and for the manufacture of glass - the art of glass-blowing having been discovered at Sidon in the 1st Century B.C.
